Café Konditorei Alber

Café / confectionery

Description

Café Konditorei Alber is located in the center of Payerbach - the perfect place for a break after a hike or during a bike tour on the Schwarzatal cycle route. The confectionery is particularly famous for its Reichenau biscuit rusks.

Original Reichenau biscuit rusk

The Reichenau biscuit rusk was already popular with summer visitors in the 19th century. It is still baked in the Alber patisserie today as it was over 100 years ago. The recipe for the sweet cookie cookies originally came from the former cook at the Thalhof. In this restaurant, which was very popular at the time, she mainly served writers, artists and even the imperial couple with her fine rusks. At the end of the 19th century, Ludwig Alber and Ignaz Oberdorfer took over the recipe for their manufactory, today's Konditorei Alber.

Now in its fifth generation, the popular Reichenau rusk is made by hand at Konditorei Alber and sent to connoisseurs all over Europe. In the 1960s, Rudolf Alber and his wife Anna also opened the Alber coffee house in Payerbach. Today, as then, the café is very popular for its homemade pastries and specialties.
