Wolfgangskirche Kirchberg am Wechsel

Description

High above the village of Kirchberg am Wechsel towers the Gothic Wolfgangskirche church, a landmark of the Feistritztal valley. Built around 1400 and later a pilgrimage church, it has experienced periods of splendor, destruction and reconstruction. Today it impresses with its striking west façade, Gothic murals, stained glass windows, an 18th century high altar and works of art by famous masters such as the "Kremser Schmidt"

The church is not only a quiet place of worship, but also a starting point for hikes, for example to the Kernstockwarte, with magnificent views of the Rax, Schneeberg and Stuhleck. Today, the Wolfgangskirche is used for cultural events and weddings, church services are held and guided tours are organized.

A visit to the Wolfgangskirche combines history, culture and nature in a unique way - a real highlight in Wechselland!

Guided tours can be requested from the "Friends of St. Wolfgang's Church" association from April to September or from the Kirchberg am Wechsel tourist office (02641/2460).
