Willendorf
Description
Willendorf is located in the district of Neunkirchen at 347 - 650 meters above sea level in a bulge of the Steinfeld, between Eichberg, Kirchbüchl with the pilgrimage church, Zweier-Berg and Kienberg. The mountain backdrop is rounded off by Schneeberg and Hohe Wand. A pond landscape with wetland biotopes forms the transition to the wide plain of the Steinfeld in the east of Willendorf. Those seeking relaxation and active vacationers will find numerous hiking trails here that offer a change from everyday life. You can experience "pure nature" on secluded paths, in the black pine forests and on gentle meadows. Thanks to its central location, Willendorf is also an ideal starting point for mountain tours to the Hohe Wand, Schneeberg, Rax and Semmering. The municipality is also easy to reach by car or public transport from the surrounding district capitals of Wr. Neustadt and Neunkirchen.
A cultural and historical highlight is the Strelzhof Castle from the 12th century, with a large landscaped park, ponds and centuries-old giant trees. A beautiful equestrian facility with riding school and restaurant as well as an antiques gallery with a horse theme complete the picture. Events such as concerts and readings are regularly held in the castle courtyard.
Quaint inns and wine taverns invite you to linger with their coziness and hospitality.
