Details for: WAB - Stage 15: Fadensattel (Edelweißhütte) - Öhler Schutzhaus

Brief description

At the 15th stage of the Wiener Alpenbogen (WAB) path, the landscape changes again. You leave the rock formations of the Schneeberg region and hike into the forest-rich ridge landscape of the Gutensteiner Alps.

Description

From the Edelweißhütte viewpoint, it goes towards Öhler over the Mamauwiese and Schober with beautiful views back to Schneeberg. At the Mamauwiese, an original moor fascinates at the lowest point. The Schober stands out for its pyramid profile in the landscape. This short stage offers many beautiful photo opportunities.

Route description WAB - Stage 15: Fadensattel (Edelweißhütte) - Öhler Schutzhaus

From the Edelweißhütte we follow the gravel road with our backs to Schneeberg past the Almreserlhaus over the Dürre Leiten to the Mamauwiese. Here we briefly meet the Mariazellerweg, which crosses the Mamauwiese to the west on a documented Roman road. We take the marked path east towards the Öhlerschutzhaus. Over a meadow path we cross a small ridge before a fantastic view of Schober and Öhler is presented to us. Descending slightly, we stroll over gentle meadows to the gravel road and turn right here. Past the Schoberhof we turn off the road to the left at a refreshing spring fountain and follow the marked hiking trail steadily uphill below the Öhler rock walls to the Öhlerschutzhaus. Here we let the day end leisurely and enjoy specialties like the "Öhlerknödel" (a meat dumpling with cabbage) or the widely appreciated sausage soup.
