Route description WAB - Regional Route B: Krumbach - Maria Schnee
The start of Regional Route B is located at the Krumbach municipal office. From here, we hike gently uphill to the parish church of St. Stefan and pass it on the right into Kirchengasse. At the end of the short half-alley, we turn half-left onto Knappenhofweg. Almost continuously uphill, we hike towards the highest point of the route. Passing the first farm, we reach Knappenhof about half an hour after the start. From here, the terrain changes from asphalt to a dirt road (partly blue markings).
We walk through agricultural cultural landscapes, past a small wooded area, and climb higher and higher. Beautiful panoramas over the Bucklige Welt and beyond accompany us on the way to a wayside shrine. Shortly after, we turn right at a peculiar crossroads onto the dirt road, ignoring the asphalt road to the left marked as a hiking trail that passes by a farm. Walking uphill, we cross a forest and arrive again at an asphalt road by a solitary tree and a small chapel. We walk briefly northwards along the road, then after a few meters, we turn again to a scenic dirt road. The view only lasts briefly, as we soon walk uphill in the forest again to the highest point of the tour. Only a few meters of elevation remain to the 896-meter-high Kühriegel, which shares the same height with the Hutwisch near Hochneukirchen. Walking downhill again, we reach a road, go right through the small settlement of Wiesfleck, turn left at the chapel and opposite the fire station onto the dirt road, and follow the row of trees. At the end of the long straight, we turn left heading north. We follow the subsequent farm road through Ebenhof and walk slightly downhill on the scenic road to the settlement of Grub. Continuing north again, passing the Winterhof with brief ascents and constant ups and downs, we reach the road junction at Sonnberg. The destination of Regional Route B, the pilgrimage church Maria Schnee, is already within reach. In Sonnberg, we turn right onto the panorama road, follow the road, and turn right onto the main road in Kaltenberg. After a few minutes on the main road, we reach the Gasthof Maria Schnee; the narrow road to the pilgrimage church branches off to the right just before it. Overnight accommodation is available at Gasthof Maria Schnee. In Kaltenberg, the trail connects to the Wiener Alpenbogen route, from where you can continue hiking either to Wiesmath or Thernberg. A descent to the Edlitz-Grimmenstein train station is possible on Regional Route F. Buses between Wiener Neustadt Hbf and Lichtenegg stop in Kaltenberg.
