The village is famous throughout the world as the place where the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein worked as a primary school teacher. Away from the hustle and bustle and stress, surrounded by peaceful nature, Trattenbach is only an hour's drive from Vienna and is also easily accessible by public transport. Lots of forest, healthy air and the ideal altitude regenerate the heart and circulation and bring back the light-heartedness of youth.

- The forest and hunting theme trails, the Wittgensteinweg, the Wanderplatz'l and many other beautiful circular hiking trails and walks along well-marked paths form a varied hiking network. Magnificent views of the Rax and Schneeberg as well as the Hochwechsel form the attractive backdrop for this recreational area.
- At the Lechner family's riding stables, young and old alike can enjoy the animal action.
- The Wechselforelle restaurant is also very popular in the region, offering both fishing and culinary delights based on local freshwater fish.
- In August 2002, a moor meadow (3,466 m²) was declared a natural monument. In the central area of this sloping moorland, you will find the sundew (Drosera rotundifolia), a carnivorous plant that specializes in moorland habitats, as well as a number of other rare marsh and moorland plants.
