Brief description

Hike from Hirschwang via Knappenhof to the Ottohaus on the Raxalpe

Description

Reach great heights on the Rax! The Ottohaus, located at 1644 meters elevation, has stood on the Raxalpe since 1893 and has attracted numerous hikers ever since. Sigmund Freud already visited and stayed overnight in the rustic Ottohaus. In about 3 hours you can reach it on foot from Hirschwang via Knappenberg, passing the Knappenhof to the mountain hut. The route is directly on the Weg am Wiener Alpenbogen. You can also start from Payerbach or Reichenau and follow the blue signs of the Wiener Alpenbogen. The Ottohaus is part of the "hut hopping" hike on the Rax, so you can also reach the Ottohaus quickly from the Raxalpen Berggasthof, which is located right at the upper station of the Rax cable car.

The Ottohaus invites you to linger: whether for an overnight stay, a break with a view of the 4,000 square meter Rax Alpine Garden with 200 typical plant species of the Rax and Schneeberg area, or for refreshment - no path leads past the Ottohaus.
