Brief description

"The forests are silent, but they are not mute. And whoever may come, they comfort everyone" (Erich Kästner)

This trail not only conveys interesting and new information about forests and forestry but also lets us experience and enjoy the forest in its beauty.

Description

The hike on the "forest trail" leads to some rare retreat areas. The trail offers diverse insights into the world of the forest ecosystem. It runs through quiet spruce forest and over clearings and alpine pastures, where one discovers biotopes, strange trees, primeval forest-like tree remains from which new light grows, and encounters in some places the eventful history of the area.

Magnificent viewpoints offer views of the surrounding mountains. Along the centuries-old border between Styria and Lower Austria, the trail leads from Feistritzsattel over 265 meters of altitude, moderately to gently ascending to Kranichberger Schwaig and descending to Steyersberger Schwaig (206 meters of altitude). 15 information boards provide information about special places as well as forest and forestry topics.

Route description Theme Trail Forest and Hunting

From our starting point at Feistritzsattel, we first learn a bit about the history of the forest railway. We then keep right and walk past a chapel along the hiking trail, which leads us past various information boards. We hike past the Hennerfeindlacke and the Bärenlacker to the Kranichberger Schwaig. Here we have reached the highest point of the trail and walk downhill to the left. We continue to follow this hiking trail, keep right until a T-junction, where we turn left onto a path. At the next-to-next opportunity, we turn right onto the paved road and thus reach our last stop, the Kranichberger Schwaig.
