SÜDBAHN Museum Mürzzuschlag
Description
Just 20 minutes by car from the spa town of Semmering is the Südbahnmuseum in Mürzzuschlag in Styria. The region around Mürzzuschlag is closely linked to railroad history. The first connection to Graz was built here as early as 1844. Later, after the completion of Carl Ritter von Ghega's famous Semmering railway , this route became an important section of the Southern Railway from Vienna to Trieste.
What awaits you on a visit to the Southern Railway Museum:
- The departure hall: a jewel of bygone days with ticket office, coffee wagon and kiosk.
- Locomotive assembly hall: here visitors get an overview of the history of the railroad.
- Roundhouse: since 2007, home to Austria's largest collection of trolleys, motor coaches and two-way vehicles. Electric locomotives can also be viewed here. The highlights for many visitors: the 180.01 steam locomotive and Ferdinand Porsche's C-train.
- Children's adventure trail through the museum: offers an entertaining and exciting visit to the museum for young and old.
