The Hengsthütte stop is nestled amidst the magical backdrop of the Hoher Hengst, a foothill of the Schneeberg. The bus stop is located right next to the refuge of the same name and is a popular stop for nature lovers.
The original woodcutter's hut is located at an altitude of 1012 meters and has space for around 100 hikers, as well as sanitary facilities and a children's playground. The popular mountain hut can be easily reached on foot from Puchberg in around one and a half hours and serves hearty delicacies and invigorating schnapps.
Tip: In winter, if there is enough snow, you can hire a toboggan at the Hengsthütte and use it to make your way back down.
Route information
- The Hengsthütte stop is on the continuation line of the Schneebergbahn, one of three cogwheel railroads still in operation in Austria. The station can be reached with the Schneebergbahn's Salamander and Nostalgia trains.
