Beautiful snowshoe hike from Losenheim to the Mamauwiese.

Description

This route leads to the dreamlike located Mamauwiese guesthouse. From this sunny spot you have a direct view of the Schneeberg, where you may also be able to observe some ski tourers descending the Lahning Ries with binoculars.

Route description Snowshoe hike to the Mamauwiese from Losenheim

We follow the red marking from the valley station of the Schneeberg chairlift along the Mamauwiese and over the waterfall, continuing on the red marking to Sonnleiten. From there we follow the yellow marking to Losenheim. From here we follow the blue marking back to the valley station.

Directions

Take the A2 to the Wiener Neustadt West exit and then follow the B26 towards Puchberg. In Puchberg follow the signs to Losenheim and Schneeberg chairlift.

Parking

Free parking spaces are available at the valley station of the Schneeberg chairlift.

Arrival to Puchberg by train (ÖBB) from Wr. Neustadt, then Retter lines from Puchberg to Losenheim.

Equipment

Snowshoes, backpack with provisions, winter-suitable hiking poles, light, mobile phone, lighter, map material
For small equipment malfunctions, often a cable tie or a piece of wire is enough for makeshift repairs.
It is recommended to always carry basic avalanche equipment in the mountains.

Safety information

Special caution is required when moving in the mountains, especially in winter. When planning your route, consider that your schedule can easily be disrupted by a small incident in winter. A change in the weather or a technical defect in the snowshoes can significantly hinder progress. Also note that it can get dark as early as 4:00 pm in winter, and spending a night outdoors in winter can quickly become life-threatening.

Please also be aware that markings can be invisible due to snow in winter, so prepare well for your route!
