Semmering

Description

On the southern border of Lower Austria towards Styria lies the municipality of Semmering and the Alpine crossing of the same name. Since 1854, the Semmering Railway (now a UNESCO World Heritage Site) has passed through the village. In the beginning, it mainly brought the  public from Vienna to Semmering for their summer retreat. Today, especially the healing climate of the high-altitude health resort attracts visitors, among other things because of the many opportunities for sports activities in the area.

You should definitely try these 4 activities during a visit to Semmering:

  • Skiing by day and night: At the Zauberberg ski area, you can ski and snowboard on 14 kilometers of slopes, including a World Cup course, during the day, but also in the evening, because it is home to Europe's largest night ski area.
  • Bike parks for families: visitors to the Bikepark Semmering have a total of 12 kilometers of downhill trails for beginners and pros at their disposal. For children from the age of 8, there is also a 2.8-kilometer-long Family Line there: on monster scooters, it's downhill over various obstacles. At the Leopark across the street, children from the age of 5 can gain their first downhill experience on 5,000 m2.
  • Tee off at 1,000 meters above sea level: The Semmering Golf Club on the Zauberberg is the oldest golf club in Austria with a unique agricultural location and 9 challenging holes.
  • Hike along the railroad hiking trail: Along the route of the UNESCO World Heritage Semmering Railway, a railroad hiking trail leads past imposing viaducts and impressive buildings.
