Markt Piesting

Description

Markt Piesting lies at the beginning of the idyllic Piestingtal valley. One often hears the term Biedermeier valley, as the charming landscape was a magnet for painters, poets and composers in the first half of the 19th century.

The painter Leopold Kupelwieser was born in Markt Piesting. Friedrich Gauermann, who was also a painter, Franz Schubert and Ferdinand Raimund also regularly visited the municipality on the Piesting, the river that gives it its name.

Since 1999, it has also been possible to follow in the footsteps of the Biedermeier greats by bike and along the Piesting. The Piestingtal cycle path runs from Markt Piesting through the floodplain area at the foot of the Starhemberg ruins, over the Kirchenriegl and along the river landscape of the Piesting. Via Reichental, it leads past the Raimund Villa to Gutenstein, where Ferdinand Raimund's grave and a memorial can be found.
