Route description Kreuzberg mountain bike route - closed

We start the tour in the Kurpark Payerbach. The route is signposted with the name "Kreuzberg route". First, a short section leads along the railroad line towards Küb. From here, continue through the village and on towards Pettenbach. At first there is a slight ascent, which then becomes steeper. We head towards the Eichberg stop. This is the section with the best view of the wonderful landscape of the World Heritage Site. After a short climb, the route continues along the Hochstraße, and the following steep climb lives up to the name of this road. After the third and final crossing of the railroad, we follow the ridge. We cross the road at Kochhof and then continue steeply uphill under the Kobermannsberg towards Kreuzberg. Here we take the turn-off towards Hotel-Restaurant Looshaus, where the mountain bike host invites us to stop for a bite to eat. The route now continues towards the highest point of the route, the Speckbacherhütte, another refreshment stop. The route continues on asphalt towards Orthof and on towards Reichenau. In Mayerhöfen, take note of the hairpin bend and then continue along a forest and meadow path to the Flackl inn. After crossing the main road 27, the route leads back to Payerbach on the Schwarzatal cycle path.

Directions

Take the S6 to the Gloggnitz exit, then the Bundesstraße 27 towards Reichenau.

Equipment

We recommend wearing a cycle helmet on rides. Wear suitable clothing and sturdy shoes. Think about rain and sun protection. Take enough to drink with you.

Safety information

When choosing a route, make sure it is suitable for your experience and fitness level. Check the weather forecast in advance. The weather can change surprisingly quickly in the mountains. Therefore, always set off equipped accordingly (e.g. rain protection).

Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit along the way are open. Inform someone about your choice of route and your planned return before you set off.
