Blickplatz "Weinzettlwand"

Description

The hike to the Weinzettlwand is just a short, worthwhile detour from the center of Breitenstein. Even if you are on the railroad hiking trail , you should not miss the two impressive viewpoints on the Weinzettelwand: the "Semmering View " and the "Breitenstein View".

Semmering view

From there, where you can rest comfortably on a bench, the spectacular view to the west opens up to the lower Adlitzgräben, the cadastral community of Klamm with the castle ruins and the Eselstein, which Carl Ritter von Ghega used as the starting point for planning the Semmering Railway due to the 360-degree view. The peaks of the Otter Group rise up behind it, while Wartenstein Castle and the expansive Wiener Neustadt basin are also visible.

The view ahead captures the glamorous Semmering. The Südbahnhotel stands out dominantly. A little above it is the Silbererschlössl, with which Victor Silberer, a pioneer of the Semmering tourism concept, created an architectural monument.

Also visible are the viewpoint "20-Schilling View" and the Doppelreiterwarteand the Hirschenkogel.

Breitenstein view

A few meters further on is the "Breitenstein View" vantage point, where the view opens up to what is probably the most famous structure on the Semmering Railway: the monumental "Kalte Rinne" viaduct. It is the largest of the two-storey viaducts on the UNESCO World Hertige site. Next to it, the steep cliffs of the Pollereswand and the village center of Breitenstein are dramatic. In the background is the Heukuppe, the highest point on the Rax.

Tour suggestions:

The impressive views and historical references to the Semmering Railway make this hike a real highlight of the region.
