From Schlaining Castle this path takes us via Schönau, the Königsbrunnen, and past Glashütten to the alpannonia main path at the large Hirschenstein.
Description
This regional route begins at Schlaining Castle and initially leads down into the castle moat. After that, it goes up to the quaint village of Schönau, along the Kerschgraben to the “small Plischa” and further to the Königsbrunnen. The path then continues towards Glashütten near Schlaining, but just before it we turn off to the “Hoher Stein” and the “Bremsberg”, until we reach the alpannonia main path between the small and large Hirschenstein.

Route description alpannonia - regional route Stadtschlaining - Hirschenstein
Directly from the info platform at the entrance to the castle (underneath we find a public toilet facility) we descend into the castle moat and follow the gravel path down to the castle wall with its small passage, continuing to the foot of the castle hill. This short but steep section should be taken carefully, especially when it rains; if necessary, this section can be bypassed via the road around the castle. At the lowest point of this moat we find a small pond and pass by a property directly to the country road. Keeping to the right, after a few meters we turn left uphill towards Schönau, but only follow this road to the first bend and then leave the road via a forest path straight into the woods. At a clearing we can get a first view back over Stadtschlaining and observe the small town from a special perspective. We follow the path up to a business site and at a junction we have the choice to walk left to Goberling or right to Schönau. We cross this Schönau straight ahead, follow a forest path through the woods, past the Kerschgraben, and enjoy the wonderfully fresh air of the “Kurtwald” and “Großer Wald” forests. Making a big right curve, we finally pass by the small Plischa (639m), then reach a larger gravel road and can rest (keep right) at the newly built rest area with its “alpannonia” information board. We now follow the gravel road downhill and see a small football field. Through the trees of the left road, we can catch a direct view of Schneeberg if visibility is good, but we continue right past the field and turn left between the field and forest towards the Königsbrunnen. Gradually slightly uphill, we go straight ahead towards Glashütten. Shortly before this, however, we follow the path in a right curve to the “Hoher Stein” (667m), past the Bremsberg (765m), and finally reach the “alpannonia” main path between the small and large Hirschenstein.
