Details for: alpannonia - regional route St. Lorenzen
Brief description
From St. Lorenzen over shady forest paths to Niederwechsel.
Description
This regional route begins in the center of St. Lorenzen and leads past the church and cemetery out of the town. Over shady forest paths and trails, it continuously ascends until the path merges with the regional Friedberg route at Thalberger Schwaig. A bit further uphill you will find the turnoff to the Glatzl-Trahütte, which is about a 15-minute walk off the path. Further along the path through the forest, you also walk briefly on an old Roman road. The wagon tracks are still clearly visible in the rock. Once the path leaves the forest, you reach the Vorauer Schwaig (not always operated). From here, after a short climb across mountain meadows, you reach the Niederwechsel, where you meet the main alpannonia trail. On the often windy Niederwechsel, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and far out into the plain.
