Details for: alpannonia - Regional Route Friedberg
Brief description
A steady ascent to Niederwechsel with some beautiful viewpoints.
Description
The path starts in the center of Friedberg and leads uphill past the old people's home into the bear pit. After exiting the bear pit, it continues over meadow paths to Schwaighof, where you can enjoy the first beautiful views. Then mostly forest paths lead to the hamlet Dreihäuser, Hilmtor, and then somewhat steeper uphill to the Hochkogel. Here you pass pilgrimage crosses that invite you to a reflective rest. After Hochkogel, the path meets the regional route to St. Lorenzen at Thalberger Schwaig. A bit further uphill you will find the junction to Glatzl Trahütte, which is about a 15-minute walk off the path. Further along through the forest, you also walk a short stretch on a former Roman road. The wagon tracks are still clearly visible in the rock. As soon as the path leaves the forest, you come to Vorauer Schwaig (not always operated). From here, after a short ascent over mountain meadows, you reach Niederwechsel, where you meet the main alpannonia path. On the often windy Niederwechsel, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding mountains and far into the plain.
