Winter sports

Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the Viennese Alps

Get out into the winter sunshine

The range of winter sports available in the Alps in the south of Lower Austria is truly impressive. It ranges from snowshoeing on the Rax to cross-country skiing trips on the Wechsel Panorama Trail. Downhill skiing is, of course, also on offer – many people learn to ski from a young age in the Viennese Alps, whether at the Skiland in St. Corona or at the Happylift in Semmering. On the slopes of the Mönichkirchen-Mariensee ski resort, beginners and advanced skiers are well catered for, and at the Semmering Magic Mountain, you can experience the genuine World Cup slopes – even at night under the floodlights.

Trains and buses to the snow

Even in winter, the Viennese Alps are easily accessible by public transport. Shuttle buses from the train stations and direct bus connections take visitors straight to the valley stations of the ski lifts.
