The hike over the idyllic Schwaigen landscape with many special views. From the Steyersberger Schwaig, where guests are pampered with Kasnocken and curd strudel, it goes to the Kampsteiner Schwaig (currently closed!), which is the last hut before the summit cross on the Kampstein. On the way to the sociable Feistritzer Schwaig, a magnificent view awaits at the Schwarzen Herrgott. The Kranichberger Schwaig also invites you to stop, e.g., for an organic snack platter. A delightful nature experience gently uphill and downhill through the expansive Wechsel landscape.

Popis trasy Schwaigen hike at the Wechsel
We start the hike from the Steyersberger Schwaig and follow the hiking trail. After just under two kilometers, we continue right at the fork. After about another two kilometers, we have the option to turn left and make a detour to the Kampsteiner Schwaig (currently closed!). For this, we walk straight along the path and then back again. Otherwise, we turn right and arrive at the Schwarzen Hergott. Here we enjoy the view. Then we turn left and go uphill to the Feistritzer Schwaig. After that, we turn right and follow the hiking trail over the Arabichl. We reach the highest point of the route and are rewarded with magnificent views. We stay left on the path. After about one kilometer, the hiking trail bends to the right. After about 500 meters, we reach the Kranichberger Schwaig. We continue to follow the hiking trail and come back down to the starting point of the hike, the Steyersberger Schwaig.

Coming from Vienna, drive along the A2 to the Edlitz exit. Then follow the B54. Turn right onto L134, drive to Feistritz am Wechsel until Kirchberg. Turn left and then take L4186. Drive through Molzegg directly to the Steyersberger Schwaig.
From Graz, follow the A2 to the Aspang exit. From Graz, take the B72 to Feistritzsattel. Take L137 to St. Corona am Wechsel. Turn left onto L4186. Drive through Molzegg directly to the Steyersberger Schwaig.
ParkováníParking facilities are available at the Steyersberger Schwaig.
The Steyersberger Schwaig is not directly accessible by public transport. Take the train via Wiener Neustadt to Aspang Markt and from there continue by bus to Mönichkirchen. A taxi is recommended for the rest of the way.

Preparation
Make sure, when choosing the route, that it matches your mountain experience and fitness. Inform yourself in advance about the weather report. Weather in the mountains can change surprisingly quickly. Therefore, always start out appropriately equipped (e.g., rain protection).
Check whether the huts and snack stations you want to visit en route are open. Inform someone about your chosen route and your planned return before you set off.
