The Kampsteiner Schwaig lies just a few meters below the Kampstein summit. It’s an ideal final stop on a hike to the summit starting from Sankt Corona.
The trail leads from St. Corona up to the Kampsteiner Schwaig at an elevation of 1,400 meters, following forest roads through quiet woods and past alpine meadows where you can see cows grazing. The trail intersects with the Family Adventure Trail, which features a wide variety of interactive play stations. You can experience“pure nature” not only on the hike but also at the huts. From the Kampsteiner Schwaig, you can quickly reach the Kampstein summit at 1,467 meters. From here, you can also take a hike across the Wechsel, head back down into the valley via the Family Adventure Trail, or join the trail along the Wiener Alpenbogen - Arc of the Viennese Alps (trail) via a regional route.
In winter, it’s best to bring your cross-country skis and join the Wechsel Panorama Trail.
Your hikes in the Vienna Alps should be a completely beautiful and safe experience. Please note the following:
Preparation
Make sure that the route you choose matches your experience and fitness. Check the weather report in advance. Weather in the mountains can change surprisingly fast. Always start out equipped accordingly (e.g., rain protection).
Check if the huts and snack stations you want to visit along the way are open. Inform someone about your chosen route and your planned return before you set off.
Always take suitable maps with you. Wear sturdy shoes adapted to the route, bring sun and rain protection, as well as water and a small snack. Take your mobile phone and save the emergency number of the mountain rescue: 140

From our starting point at the church in St. Corona, we hike uphill in a southern direction. First, we walk on the paved path and turn left first, then right again, crossing the former ski lift route several times. We come to a junction where we can take a detour to the Ödenhof on the right. To stay on our route, we now turn left and reach a forest road. At the first fork, we keep right and then continue straight until we reach the paved Orthof road. After the Orthof inn, we turn right up a path. We follow this path, at the reservoir pond keep to the right, and thus reach the Almrausch hut. Following the signpost towards Kampsteiner Schwaig, we reach Kampsteiner Schwaig via a paved path.
