Take the Rax cableway to the highest plateau where snow is guaranteed

Snowshoe hiking, ski-biking or taking a backpack bobsleigh tour through the winter paradise on the Rax.

Want to leave the clouds and daily life behind? In just eight minutes the Rax cableway brings guests to a winter paradise for snowshoe hikers and winter sports enthusiasts, standing at 1500 metres high.

The particularly attractive Rax plateau can be explored by snowshoe. On snowshoe hikes led by professionals, beginners of all ages will quickly find out how effortless and relaxing this gentle endurance training is. A 12km long walk route leads from the top station, past the Praterstern signposts, to the 1642 metres high Otto House and then along the lake route to the New Lakeside Huts. Time and again you are rewarded along the way with a magnificent view across Schneeberg. At the Mountain Inn, right by the cableway station, you can hire snowshoes in all the latest models.

Skiing, Skibiking and Backpack Bobsleighing
Right next to the top station there is a flat lift, which is especially ideal for beginners and children. If you’re looking for additional action, you can hire a full suspension ski bike from the Mountain Inn. Backpack Bobsleigh tours offer just as much thrill: After snowshoe hiking through the idyllic winter landscape, travel back downhill with a backpack bobsleigh – a combination of rucksack and sled.

Out and about with the tour guide
Snowshoe hiking does not require previous knowledge and after just a short time you’ll get a feel for the shoes with a large surface area. The gentle endurance sport is an ideal alternative to skiing when there is little snow and the slopes aren’t prepared. In the Vienna Alps there are two snowshoe hiking specialists – Teamwandern and Toms Outdoor Training. The tour guides know the terrain and will guide you and your friends safely through the landscape. You can also hike when there is no snow at all – but then with walking boots.
