Habsburghaus

Habsburghaus on the Grieskogel (1,785m) is considered to be the most alpine hut on the Rax

Hikers stay overnight in the Habsburgshaus on the Rax, which is on the 1,785m-high summit of the Grieskogel. The family-friendly hut spoils its guests with a breathtaking panorama.

The “Akropolis der Rax” – as the Habsburghaus is also known – is enthroned at the top of the Grieskogel in the Rax mountains, at 1,785m above sea level. Through the panoramic windows of the dining room, hikers can enjoy wonderful views of the Schneealpe, Ötscher and Hochschwab mountains.

Are you sitting comfortably?

After a snack, you can relax with a book by the stove in the cosy sitting area. A small library containing books about mountains, as well as novels and children’s books, has been set up in the hut. Stay overnight if you want to see what is surely the most beautiful sunset in the Rax area.

For families and mountain lovers

As one of the certified huts in the Vienna Alps, the Habsburghaus can be reached by well-equipped hikers, as well as via family-friendly routes, and more challenging fixed-rope routes. The shortest route starts from the summit station of the Rax aerial cableway, and leads to the Grieskogel in two and a half hours.
