Route description Winter walk through Gloggnitz

The starting point for the walk is the car park at Schloss Gloggnitz. The courtyard of the castle and the castle park are accessible all year round. A special highlight here in the castle park are the two approximately 150-year-old giant sequoias. Depending on the snow conditions, children can also play at the playground in the park or enjoy a hot chocolate in the castle restaurant.

From the castle car park, walk uphill for a bit until you reach the end of the park walls and turn right at the small gravel car park into the forest path. Stroll downhill through the forest and then continue straight on the asphalt road. Turn left into the first alley, Further Weg. Now cross Semmeringstraße at the Chinese restaurant and turn left into the first alley, Erlbachgasse. The path runs along the Erlbach stream until you go right over a small wooden bridge at the end of the alley. You walk through a small forest area past the back of the sports field and the natural swimming pool. At the end of the path, turn right into Prägasse and walk past the town hall until you reach the Sparkassenplatz. Here turn right uphill in the alley between the Sparkasse and the city cafés. You will reach the parish church. Walk through the small park and turn left before the parish center into the forest path downhill. Now walk along the Zeissberger Waldzeile until you turn left after the ice-skating rink into Rennergasse. You pass the front of the ice rink and the fire station before turning right into Johann-Lahn-Gasse towards Wiener Straße. Before you turn, take a look ahead: on the left side you will see the Villa of Dr. Karl Renner, which houses the museum of contemporary history of the same name.

Turn left from Lahn-Gasse onto Wiener Straße and continue walking on the main street past Dr. Karl Renner Platz and the St. Othmar Chapel. This section is perfect for window shopping or a short stop at a gastronomy business. At the end of the street, you reach the Stiegenwirtshaus. From here, walk back to the castle via the so-called Kirchensteig behind the Stiegenwirtshaus.
