The first stage of the Marienweg leads from Lockenhaus through Burgenland into Lower Austria to the stage destination of Kirchschlag in der Bucklige Welt.
From the Hungarian border town of Köszeg, the Marienweg leads via Lockenhaus at the foot of the Geschriebenstein through central Burgenland. On side roads with little traffic, you reach Langeck in Burgenland and shortly afterwards Deutsch Gerisdorf. After Bubendorf and past Pilgersdorf, the route leads to Steinbach in Burgenland. Shortly afterwards, at the "Radigundenstein", you pass the border with Lower Austria. The approximately 15-metre-high rock formation is named after Countess Radigunde, the mistress of Kirchschlag. This is said to have been her favorite place. Now you hike another 2 kilometers on a marked path to Kirchschlag.
